Dr. Bill Schulte, Associate Professor of Mass Communication, will present, "Social Constructionism as a Media Research Lens: Applying Theory to Research in News, Entertainment, and Culture." This presentation will focus on applying a single theory (Social Construction) to various research methods and media platforms. We will look at studies related to newsroom culture, blogging, comic texts, and student reporting as they shape the world and change cultural contexts. Media shapes the world often before we know.

Research Explorations, a collaboration between Dacus Library and the College of Arts and Sciences, is a speaker series that showcases Winthrop faculty and student research projects. Guest speakers will not only present and discuss their current research projects, they’ll also explain their research methods and processes, such as how to search for sources, how to form research surveys and get IRB approval, how to write abstracts, and how to present research. These are all important skills for new researchers to learn and model, and these presentations are designed to help students learn how to build a framework for structuring their own research projects.
